Laser Scanning and 3D Modelling

Laser Scanners can record billions of spatial observations in just a few minutes. The resulting data can then be used to determine the precise location of objects, calculate their dimensions and, ultimately, to produce full 3D models of target areas. This allows detailed and complicated structures such as complex pipe work, building facades, sculptures or even the curved hulls of ships to be recorded quickly and accurately.

Applications:

Laser Scanning and 3D Modelling has many widespread uses with applications in:

  • Oil and Gas - Facilitating integration of conceptual CAD designs with existing plant infrastructure
  • Mining - Enabling efficient calculation of stockpile and open pit volumes with high accuracy
  • Construction - Ensuring that prefabricated materials are within acceptable tolerance limits before arriving onsite
  • Historical and Heritage - Creation of 3D models of buildings, monuments or other objects of historical importance
  • Architectural - Allowing production of drawings from real-world structures with far more detail, accuracy and speed

Benefits:

3D Laser Scanning and 3D Modelling can provide significant cost savings and other benefits including:

  • A Higher Level of Accuracy and Detail
  • Higher Quality End Products
  • Faster Field Time Results with Less Facility, Equipment and Personnel Downtime
  • Complete As-built Surveys
  • Unobtrusive and Safer Data Capture
  • Reduction or Elimination of Costly Return Visits to a Site
