Laser Scanning & 3D Modelling

3D Laser Scanning is capable of collecting vast amounts of spatial data of a given area in a relatively short period of time. Laser Scanners can observe millions of measurements in just a few minutes this produces in effect a 3D image of the targeted area made up of millions of individual pixels or points.

The laser scan data collected can then be easily queried to determine measurements, coordinates or rendered into a full 3D model representation of the original area. Laser Scanning allows detailed and complicated structures such as complex pipe work, building facades, sculptures or the curved hull of a ship to be recorded quickly and accurately.

Applications:

3D Laser Scanning and 3D Modelling have many varied and widespread uses across many industries, some examples of which are;

  • Oil and Gas - integrate conceptual CAD designs with existing plant infrastructure
  • Mining - efficiently determine the volume of stockpiles and open pits with accuracy
  • Construction - ensure that pre-fabricated materials are within acceptable tolerance before arrival onsite
  • Historical and Heritage - create 3D digital records of buildings, monuments or other objects that are of historical importance
  • Architectural - create 2D line work drawings from existing structures with more detail, accuracy and speed

Benefits :

3D Laser Scanning and 3D Modelling can provide significant cost savings and other added value benefits

  • Reductions in overall project costs
  • Higher Level of Detail
  • Higher Levels of Accuracy
  • Higher Quality product deliverables
  • Faster field time results with less facility, equipment and personnel downtime
  • Complete as-built surveys
  • Unobtrusive and safer data capture
  • Reduction or elimination of costly return visits to a site
