3D Laser Scanning is capable of collecting vast amounts of spatial data of a given area in a relatively short period of time. Laser Scanners can observe millions of measurements in just a few minutes this produces in effect a 3D image of the targeted area made up of millions of individual pixels or points.
The laser scan data collected can then be easily queried to determine measurements, coordinates or rendered into a full 3D model representation of the original area. Laser Scanning allows detailed and complicated structures such as complex pipe work, building facades, sculptures or the curved hull of a ship to be recorded quickly and accurately.
